A 50 Year Old Tomatin has been released by Wealth Solutions

Wealth Solutions has launched a limited edition Tomatin single malt from 1967. This 50 year old spirit is the oldest whisky to have been lying within Tomatin’s warehouses and only 88 bottles have been offered for sale.

Tomatin 50 Year Old Black, as this edition is named, dates back to the year when The Beatles released their legendary album titled Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and the first issue of The Rolling Stone magazine hit the shelves in the US. This whisky is a real time capsule which takes its owner back to the 1960s. For fifty years, the spirit was aged in a cask previously filled with sherry, earning its unique and rich profile. The whisky has been bottled by Tomatin Distillery as a single cask and at cask strength, natural colour and non-chill filtered, so that it can be fully appreciated in its natural form.

This special edition was selected by the Tomatin Distillery especially for clients of Wealth Solutions, which is an expert in the field of providing collectors with extremely rare spirits, as well as other collectors’ items, such as rare watches, fountain pens, coins or works of art.

“We were delighted to work with Wealth Solutions on bringing this special whisky to market,” said Stephen Bremner, Sales Director at Tomatin. “It is the oldest whisky we currently have in our warehouses and one which will certainly be enjoyed by those who manage to acquire a bottle.”

Tomatin 50 Year Old Black was placed on the market in a special packaging consisting of a decorative decanter, wooden box designed specifically for this project by Wealth Solutions, and a book by Martine Nouet – industry expert and author of numerous acclaimed publications on whisky. The book contains information on the Tomatin Distillery, the whisky contained within and the author’s tasting notes, as well as her suggestions about which foods are best served with this exceptional whisky.

“This whisky epitomizes the signature of time left by rancio, this mysterious bouquet of earthy, fungal, spicy and fruity notes only found in the oldest eaux-de-vie. Fruit wraps up oak and spices, leaving the print of sherry through subtle layers of flavours. A sensual ”pas de deux” between wood and spices.“ wrote Martine Nouet in the booklet.

Now, this exceptional liquor is going to be available to whisky enthusiasts, giving them an opportunity to enjoy its rich and unique profile. In it, they are sure to discover the spirit of the colourful 1960s, and perhaps the sounds of the music made by the Beatles, the Rolling Stones or Jimi Hendrix. Tomatin Distillery has been producing and blending malt Scotch whisky since 1897. At its peak in the 1970s, Tomatin was the largest distillery in the world operating 23 stills and producing 12 million litres of alcohol every year. Over the past few years we have invested a lot of time in rediscovering our distillery, people and values and refining our business model to move away from the formerly lucrative bulk commodity market and focus on our core brands. In 2002 the number of stills was reduced to 12 and we are now comfortably producing just over 2 million litres of alcohol annually. Our strategy has been transformed and we are now producing some of the finest Scottish Single Malts in the world, and in turn promoting and growing the Tomatin brand in its own right.

We own and distribute a full brand portfolio; the flagship brand is ‘Tomatin Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky’ which incorporates a core range of different age and flavour profile whiskies (all non-peated) along with regular limited edition releases. In 2013, we launched ‘Cù Bòcan Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky’ of which we produce just 60,000 litres per annum using only peated barley. We own a number of our own blended whisky brands, the key brand being ‘The Antiquary Blended Scotch Whisky’ which is a premium blend. Our standard blends complete the portfolio and include ‘The Talisman’, ‘Big T’, ‘Legendary Scot’, and ‘Ancient Clan’, all of which are sold in different export markets. All of our blends are native to Tomatin and contain a substantial quantity of our whisky within them.
